Postnatal Packages
perfectlypostnatal packages allow you to choose how you receive your postnatal care and support after the birth of your baby, to best accommodate your needs.
The NHS is obliged to provide postnatal care to women and their newborn babies, but is sadly often unable to offer the level of support that you might like. Receiving postnatal care from an independent midwife means that you can have peace of mind in the early days with your newborn baby, knowing that you will be visited in the comfort of your home from a healthcare professional who you know and trust. Unlike maternity nurses, the focus of midwives is on the mother and we are fully qualified healthcare professionals who are required to maintain professional standards and continue with professional development.
The standard package of care is listed below, but you can have whatever postnatal care would best suit your needs, so please ask if you have specific requirements.
4-10 postnatal visits + 1 pre-birth chat*
You will have a chance to talk through with your midwife what to expect in the early days with your new baby when you’re around 36 weeks pregnant at a time and place that’s convenient for you.
During your visits after the birth, you will have an opportunity to talk through your birth experience, as well as how to understand your baby, managing tiredness, how to recognise if your baby is unwell and any other concerns that you may have.
This package also includes:
• 24-hour telephone advice
• breastfeeding support
• newborn blood spot screening
• baby weighing
• emotional and psychological support
• care after caesarean section
• information on looking after your baby
You will be seen by your midwife very frequently in the first week or so, and as you grow in confidence the visits will be more spaced apart.
Individual consultation*
One-off postnatal consultations are offered if you need specific advice regarding you or your baby after the birth including breastfeeding support.
